General Information

Wellington is an historical town steeped in tradition, situated in the Western Cape province of South Africa.  Lovers of the outdoors and certainly wine will enjoy visiting Wellington where so much is offered to its visitors.

Nestled at the foot of the Hawequas Mountains, Wellington is etched in beauty and only a 45 minute drive out of Cape Town making it easily accessible to visitors.  A tourist centre, the town has grown rapidly since the opening of the brilliant Bainskloof Pass in 1853.  This pass is one of the oldest in the country and connects Wellington to the Tulbagh Valley, Ceres and Worcester.  The pass was built by Andrew Bain and is a national monument as well as the starting point of some great hikes in the area.

A notable feature with spectacular architecture is the Dutch Reformed Church which dates back to the 1840’s and is worth the visit.  Wellington is also known to be an academic hotspot with the Cape Peninsula University of Technology and the Huguenot College located here.

For wine lovers Wellington is the place to be, offering 2 large cellars and various wine estates, all within a small distance of each other.  The Wellington region is famous for its fruit especially apricots.
